It’s Fun to Get Along

Getting along with others takes a strong willingness to shift the focus away from ourselves and place that focus on them.  Practice makes perfectIMG_0456

What Method of Talk Therapy is Best for Me?

12 Apr

Announcement: The stigma has vanished for individuals who want to ‘talk out their issues.’

Being able to talk to someone who is clinically trained can help us lift a mood and see things more clearly. We can also work on some bothersome behaviors.

For those who live near their favorite therapist/counselor, a face-to-face psychotherapy practice is best. But for many reasons, people often choose other methods of delivery for therapy. Those methods are email sessions, telephone sessions, video conferencing on some favorite methods (Skype, for example), and private chatroom sessions. Couples and family sessions can also be accomplished on most of these methods.

Today, I’d like to talk about Email Counseling Sessions with your favorite therapist.

Email sessions are easy for some because all that is necessary is to write out the issue. As a therapist, I believe it is wise to keep a daily journal. This practice helps us organize our thoughts and express and release emotions when not in our session. From that point, the therapist will respond.

We’ll talk more about other delivery methods in some of the next blog posts.

For those interested in talk therapy, please email me for details. KathiCounselor@aol.com or KathiCounselor@gmail.com. I can be found through some major psychotherapy and counseling sites if you wish to Google Kathleen R. Madison, LPC.

Today you might wish to participate in some homework I’ve challenged my face-to-face clients:

Make a Gratitude List and add two items to it daily. Write all the things you are grateful for today. Research has shown that the happiest people are those who freely express gratitude.

Namaste.

Up to Your Ears in Alligators?

Up to Your Ears in Alligators?

Sometimes it Feels Like This, Doesn’t It?
When I talk with individuals about the stress and confusion, frustration and anxiety they are experiencing in their daily lives, we review an important checklist: Number One Item: Are you too involved in being concerned about the BEHAVIOR of another individual? If so, remember that “We are only responsible for OUR OWN BEHAVIORS.” Minding others’ business is a huge stressor in our lives! How can we possibly know what is best for others? We only know what is best for US.
Just for Today, let’s shoo those ‘Alligators’ away and know that they don’t have to exist when we are only concerned about our own actions, business, and behaviors!
Have a peaceful and stress-free day!

Finding Your Peaceful Place

10 Mar
You Can Go Here

A Special Peaceful Place

Stress and Anxiety change everything (if we let it into our lives)!

Often I encourage going to a special “peaceful place in your brain.” Eastern teachings help us achieve success in this journey. Use every resource available to find answers locked inside while discovering how to manifest happiness and contentment.

Here’s a photo I want to share taken at Bathesheba Beach in Barbados.  Do you see the beauty of nature? Can you hear the ocean and the wind? Do you smell the salt air? Use all of your inner senses to help you find your peaceful life.

You are living in the present and that is the best place to begin your travels!

Peace be with you, my friend.

The Art of the Reframe

4 Nov

Do you look at a glass as ‘half empty” or “half full”?  The main difference is the ‘Art of the Reframe”.

Do you ever try a ‘frustration-level check”? Something is bothering you but you can’t quite put your finger on it.  You realize you have been looking at life through ‘grey colored glasses”.

Just for today, instead of viewing something from a negative point of view (half empty), try reframing it to consider the positive side of the situation (half full.)  It takes practice but as you become more proficient at this skill, you will feel better about life in general and will increase your coping abilities in situations beyond your control. Reframing a situation is so much easier!

“Twixt the optimist and pessimist

The difference is droll

The optimist sees the doughnut

But the pessimist sees the hole.”      ……McLandburgh Wilson b.1892

Birth of a Blog for A Therapy Session

8 Apr

Easter Sunday seems an appropriate day to ‘birth a blog’ on A Therapy Session. It is a beautiful day in the mid-70’s in South Carolina. Families are watching The Master’s tournament on television or in person in this part of the country. There isn’t a cloud in the sky! The first double-eagle in 76 years was just scored on the second hole of Augusta National! And at home, neighborhood children are kayaking in the river while one tufted titmouse feeds the other at the kitchen-window outdoor feeder. Springtime is a time for renewal and appreciation.

Today, my wish for you is to experience a peaceful and restful day.
